Founding a business is a very lonely endeavor. You will find that very few people in your circle of friends understand what you are going through. Your staff will see you as “the man,” “the boss,” someone who can’t possibly relate to their plight as employees. Your family will wonder why you are stressed all the time and never seem to have any money. After all, you own the business, right? Just grab the cash you need! And your friends, who have “regular jobs,” will question why you work so much and no longer have time for them. When the customers complain, or bill collectors call, or employees are upset, there is no one higher on the corporate ladder for you to refer the problem to. The proverbial “buck” stops with you. The stress that this kind of responsibility induces is very difficult to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced it. And this is probably the biggest and best reason to seek a partnership. After all, two are better than one, and together you can encourage each other, solve problems together and share a heavy load.
